Join CCF QLD for an open discussion during Safe Work Month: an initiative held nationally each year in October, dedicated to promoting safe and healthy workplaces for everyone.

This year’s theme, “Safety is Everyone’s Business,” emphasises that a safe and healthy workplace is both a fundamental right and a business advantage. It highlights how effective WHS risk management benefits individuals, organisations, and the wider community.

Explore our lineup of expert speakers and topics:

Dr. Drew Rae, Associate Professor at Griffith University’s Safety Science Innovation Lab and host of 'The Safety of Work' podcast, will discuss "Making Safety Work Meaningful." He will highlight the difference between "safety work"—tasks performed by safety practitioners—and "safety outcomes" in operations. Dr. Rae will address how disconnects between these elements can lead to ineffective practices and staff disillusionment, advocating for open discussions to improve the relevance and impact of safety efforts in organisations.

Scott Whimpey, Managing Director of First Aid Accident & Emergency, will lead a hands-on session focusing on critical first response skills for civil sites. His presentation will cover essential topics such as scene assessment, prioritization, CPR, and the use of defibrillators. Attendees will also participate in a practical competition to apply these techniques in real-world scenarios.

Georgia Gowen, Manager of Growth and Relationships at BUSSQ Building Super, will present on the importance of insurance coverage in high-risk industries. Georgia will provide practical insights into how proper insurance can safeguard you and your family, emphasising the value of aligning your super with the right insurance options. Attendees will gain key takeaways to ensure a safer and more secure future.

Kate Pollock, QLD Safety Manager at Haslin Constructions, will discuss how to embed safety into company core values. She will explain the evolution of safety from a compliance task to a central aspect of daily operations. Highlighting Haslin’s four core values: We Commit Together, We Own Our Part, We Show Respect, and We Get It Done Safe As - she will illustrate their role in creating a proactive safety culture. Emphasising teamwork, accountability, and respect for safety procedures, Kate will stress that safety should never be sacrificed for productivity. By integrating these values into everyday practices, she ensures safety is a year-round priority, leading to safer workplaces and long-term success in the construction industry.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with industry leaders, share best practices, and enhance your efforts towards a safer work environment.

Registration is free for all attendees and a light breakfast, tea and coffee will be provided on arrival.
